In Australia, the date follows a specific formula: date month year:
9 December 2010
This is the format you should use in general documents. The convention in the United States is month date year:
December 9 2010
If you need to include the weekday, put it before the date and without punctuation:
Thursday 9 December 2010
ALSO did you know? The Internationally defined standard (ISO 8601) is all numbers, from year to date, separated by dashes. So 16 August 1958 would be:
1958-08-16 or 19580816
